Mr Smith graduated from Kings College London Medical School in 1993. He also gained a BSc in Anatomy while at medical school and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering later in his training.
Mr Smith’s Basic Surgical Training in the South East and Bristol gave him additional experience in orthopaedics, plastic, vascular and neurosurgery.
Mr Smith subsequently trained as an orthopaedic registrar on the South East Thames rotation based in London, Kent and Sussex. Having passed the FRCS examinations and obtaining CCT, he spent a year in Louisville, Kentucky, working with Kleinert, Kutz and Co on a hand, wrist and microsurgery fellowship.
Mr Smith returned to the UK in 2005 and took up a Consultant post in hand and wrist surgery in East Kent, where he worked for 19 years.
Since 2024, Mr Smith has worked purely in the independent sector. This has allowed him to focus more closely on developing excellence in his practice. Mr Smith has a strong interest in joint replacement surgery in the hand and wrist and has a presented on these topics at the BSSH, national arthroplasty meeting and published on these topics. Mr Smith also treats all common hand conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger/thumb, Dupuytren’s contracture, tendonitis and thumb base arthritis.

Mr Smith lives in Kent and enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys keeping fit and cycling.
